Tip: When using behavior charts to improve your child’s behavior spend some time trying to understand why he is behaving in this manner. Does he misbehave because its easier than behaving well or is he looking for attention from you. Sometimes negative attention is better than no attention at all. Raising kids is very stressful and we are often so preoccupied with our own problems that we don’t realize that most of the attention that our kids get is when they behave badly, as opposed to remembering to praise them when they behave well. Behavior charts are actually one of the ways to ensure that this doesn’t happen. When we use sticker charts to track our kids’ behavior we are reminded to praise them. Every time we give them a sticker or mark their chart we are focusing on their good behavior and praising them when they do something well.
